Biome.
The body is an environment. Each system is an environment inside it. Stop asking what to take. Start asking what you're growing.
Concept v0.1 · Kristen Hall, Director of R&D · Editorial Series № 04
Modern health platforms tell you what to do. They prescribe protocols, sell supplements, push streaks, and turn your body into a scoreboard. Biome works the other way. It treats the body as what it actually is — an environment. A nested set of environments, in fact: gut, sleep, hormones, immune, vascular, cognitive, structural, exposure. Each one its own ecosystem. Some environments grow disease. Some grow resilience. The difference isn't moral. It's ecological.
§ One — The Premise
A mirror, not a coach.
Biome is a questionnaire-driven, information-first platform that maps your daily inputs to your body's sub-environments and shows you what's happening — not what to do about it. Every claim links to primary research. Commercial entanglement is treated like contamination: kept out by design.
The platform's job is to make the invisible visible. It will not tell you to take a supplement, buy a device, or follow a regimen. It will help you understand which environment you're tending — and let you decide what to do with the knowing.
§ Two — The Map
Eight nested environments.
Each system is treated as its own ecosystem, with its own inputs, its own indicators of thriving or failing, and its own evidence base.
01 / 08
Gut & Microbiome
The most-studied internal ecosystem. Fiber, fermentation, antibiotics, stress, sleep.
02 / 08
Sleep Architecture
Duration, regularity, depth, and the timing of light. Foundational to every other system.
03 / 08
Endocrine
Thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones, insulin. The body's signaling weather.
04 / 08
Immune
Surveillance and repair. Modulated by sleep, stress, gut, and exposure.
05 / 08
Cardiovascular & Metabolic
Glucose, lipids, blood pressure, mitochondrial function. The energetic substrate.
06 / 08
Cognitive & Nervous
Mood, focus, autonomic balance, vagal tone. Where stress lands and is metabolized.
07 / 08
Structural
Bone, muscle, fascia, connective tissue. The architecture you live in.
08 / 08
Exposure Layer
Air, water, light, sound, chemical, social, psychological. What surrounds you, in you.
§ Three — The Inputs
Everything that shapes the environment.
The Biome questionnaire is sectioned and skippable. Three minutes for essentials. Twelve to fifteen for the full picture. Quarterly to keep the map honest.
§ Four — The Bright Lines
What Biome refuses to do.
A platform's negative spec is more important than its positive one. These are not preferences. They are conditions of existence.
- Sell supplements, recommend brands, or accept sponsorship from any wellness, supplement, or device company. Ever.
- Prescribe protocols, regimens, or treatments. Biome explains; it does not instruct.
- Reduce a person to a score, a streak, or a stack. The body is not a leaderboard.
- Pretend contested science is settled, or hide research that complicates a popular claim.
- Make deterministic predictions. Modeled trajectories carry their uncertainty visibly.
- Hide sources. Every claim is linked. Every methodology is shown.
- Sell, share, or surveil user health data. No third-party trackers. No analytics on personal inputs. No exceptions.
- Replace clinical care. A persistent disclaimer is the floor; the source policy is the enforcement.
§ Five — The Algorithm
A mirror that does the math out loud.
Biome runs your inputs against published epidemiological models and shows the modeled trajectory of your current environment. The output is conditional, not predictive.
The frame is honest:“Here's how the math runs, given what you've told me.” Not “you will.” Sensitivity sliders let you ask what changes if you change. Life-expectancy estimation is framed as a modeling exercise — never as fate.
Read methodology →§ Six — The Diet Library
Eight families, presented plainly.
Mediterranean
The deepest evidence base for cardiovascular and all-cause outcomes.
Paleo
Ancestral-pattern framing; mixed evidence; strong on processed-food removal.
Pescatarian
Plant-forward plus marine omega-3s; favorable cardiovascular signal.
Plant-Forward / WFPB
Fiber-rich, polyphenol-rich; attention required to B12, iron, omega-3.
Low-Carb / Ketogenic
Clinically established for epilepsy, metabolic syndrome; long-term data thin.
Autoimmune Protocol
Elimination-based; small but suggestive evidence for autoimmune symptom relief.
Intermittent Fasting Patterns
Time-restricted eating; metabolic signal real, hormonal effects context-dependent.
Carnivore
Newer, polarizing, thin long-term data. Shown honestly with what is and isn't known.
§ Seven — The Modality Library
Cutting-edge, but honest.
Peptides
A real research frontier. Many compounds research-only; regulation patchy.
Red Light Therapy
Photobiomodulation at 660nm / 850nm. Skin and mitochondrial signal real.
PEMF & Whole-Body Vibration
Bone density, circulation, lymphatic signal real.
Stem Cell Therapy
Genuine frontier; orthopedic applications most validated.
Sauna & Heat
Robust cardiovascular evidence from Finnish cohorts.
Cold Exposure
Mood and inflammation signal; popular claims outrun the science.
Breathwork
Autonomic nervous system modulation; oldest modality with the newest data.
Hormone Optimization
Real medicine with real risk. Shown as clinical territory; never DIY territory.
